Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces or remodels labial structure and contour. Dr. Romanzi published a surgical technique monograph on reduction labiaplasty in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that is included in our labiaplasty information packet (click here to read).
Labiaplasty, with rare exception, is deemed cosmetic by all major commercial insurance carriers. Even though your desire to have this surgery may be due to severe discomfort you experience while wearing clothes, while walking or exercising, or simply because you do not “like the way it looks”, establishing medical necessity is almost always not possible. With labiaplasty, in the overwhelming majority of circumstances, no matter how severe your symptoms, the insurance companies will NOT assign medical necessity to the labiaplasty procedure and will not reimburse you for the procedure.
In the few cases in where medical necessity may be clearly established, most are related to childbirth changes in labial structure. If medical necessity can be clearly documented in your case, then our Surgical Coordinator will work with you to facilitate the insurance reimbursement process.
All labia minora (internal), whether asymmetric (uneven), hypertrophied (enlarged), or elongated, are within normal limits for female genitalia. The risks of labiaplasty include but are not limited to pain, numbness, sexual dysfunction, infection, a contour that is still not acceptable, and the possibility of revision of labiaplasty after the first procedure. You may wish to seek other medical opinions as part of your decision regarding labiaplasty.
The procedure is performed at the Center for Specialty Care as an ambulatory procedure. It requires approximately one (1) hour of surgery time and you will go home the same day.
The $250.00 consultation fee for labiaplasty is applicable to the procedure should you choose to proceed. The operation is performed at the Center for Specialty Care, Inc. on an ambulatory basis. It requires approximately one (1) hour of surgery time and you will go home the same day.
